Adventure Overview
Itinerary
Day 1: Dehradun to Sari
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to the quaint village of Sari, covering approximately 200 kilometers in 8–10 hours. The route passes through picturesque towns like Devprayag and Rudraprayag, where rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi merge to form the Ganga. Upon arrival in Sari, you’ll settle into a local guesthouse or homestay, surrounded by serene mountain views, preparing for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Sari to Deoria Tal
After breakfast, begin an easy 3 km trek from Sari to Deoria Tal. The trail ascends gradually through rhododendron forests and small hamlets. By afternoon, you’ll reach Deoria Tal, a pristine lake known for reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks like Chaukhamba. Spend the evening by the lakeside, soaking in the tranquility and camping under a star-studded sky.
Day 3: Deoria Tal to Chopta via Rohini Bugyal
This is a long but rewarding trekking day. You’ll cover about 14 km from Deoria Tal to Chopta, passing through dense forests, remote trails, and the alpine meadow of Rohini Bugyal. This less-trodden path offers solitude and breathtaking Himalayan landscapes. After 6–8 hours of trekking, reach Chopta, a scenic hill station often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland” of India. Stay overnight in a camp or guesthouse.
Day 4: Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashila, back to Chopta
Begin early to trek from Chopta to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, situated at 12,100 feet. From Tungnath, continue the steep climb to Chandrashila summit at 13,100 feet. The summit offers a panoramic view of majestic Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath, and Chaukhamba. After spending time at the summit, descend back to Chopta for a well-earned rest.
Day 5: Chopta to Dehradun
On the final day, drive back from Chopta to Dehradun, retracing the 200 km journey through the beautiful Garhwal Himalayas. The road winds past confluences, forests, and river valleys, allowing time to reflect on the memorable trek. Reach Dehradun by evening, marking the end of an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
