Itinerary
Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (1,920 m)
Your journey begins with a long but beautiful drive from Dehradun to Sankri, covering 190 km in about 8 hours. The drive passes through Mussoorie, winding roads, pine forests, and charming villages along the Tons River. Sankri is a scenic mountain village and the starting point for many Garhwal treks.
Day 2: Sankri to Seema (2,560 m) via Taluka (2,050 m)
After breakfast, drive an hour to Taluka, where your trek officially begins. From Taluka, trek 14 km through dense forests of deodar and pine, following the Supin River. Pass through small villages and occasional wooden bridges to reach Seema, a beautiful riverside campsite near the village of Osla.
Day 3: Seema to Roiltia / Waterfall Camp (3,350 m)
The trail today ascends steadily through forests, meadows, and streams as you leave the treeline behind. Trek 13 km over 6 hours to reach Roiltia, also known as Waterfall Camp. This is a scenic campsite with views of waterfalls, rocky outcrops, and the surrounding alpine terrain.
Day 4: Roiltia to Ruinsara Lake (3,600 m)
A short 4 km trek takes you to the stunning Ruinsara Lake in about 2 hours. Surrounded by birch forests and towering snow-capped peaks like Swargarohini and Black Peak, the glacial lake is considered sacred by locals. Camp beside the lake for an unforgettable Himalayan evening.
Day 5: Rest and Explore Ruinsara or Trek to Thanga (Optional)
Today is a buffer/rest day to help with acclimatization. You can explore the serene surroundings of Ruinsara Lake, enjoy photography, or opt for a short 3 km trek to Thanga (1.5 hours), a higher-altitude campsite that brings you closer to the pass.
Day 6: Ruinsara/Thanga to Bali Pass Basecamp (4,600 m)
Today’s trek is a gradual but challenging 8 km ascent over 7 hours. The trail moves into high alpine terrain with moraine fields and glacier views. You’ll camp at Bali Pass Basecamp, surrounded by dramatic snowfields and the towering peak of Swargarohini.
Day 7: Bali Pass Basecamp to Lower Dhamni (3,200 m) via Bali Pass (4,900 m)
The most demanding and thrilling day of the trek. Start early to cross Bali Pass at 4,900 m, with steep climbs and a descent on snow or scree. From the top, enjoy 360° views of Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, and Yamunotri peaks. Descend carefully to reach Lower Dhamni after 12 km and 9 hours of trekking.
Day 8: Lower Dhamni to Yamunotri to Janki Chatti (2,400 m)
Trek 12 km over 6 hours to reach Yamunotri Temple, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. After a short visit and rest, continue trekking or take a local ride down to Janki Chatti, the roadhead where your trek concludes. Overnight at a guesthouse or lodge.
Day 9: Drive from Janki Chatti to Dehradun
After breakfast, drive 190 km back to Dehradun. The 8-hour journey winds through scenic mountains, terraced villages, and river valleys, marking the end of your adventurous Bali Pass expedition.
